Dental Bridge Cost in South Africa

A dental bridge replaces one or more missing teeth by anchoring artificial teeth to the natural teeth or implants on either side of the gap. Cost is usually quoted per unit (each crown or false tooth in the bridge), so a typical three-unit bridge involves three units. Prices below are indicative SA ranges and vary by bridge type, materials and clinic.

What affects the price

Does medical aid cover it?

Bridges are usually recognised by SA medical schemes as a restorative procedure, but cover is typically limited and paid from the dental or savings benefit, often with pre-authorisation and per-unit or annual limits. Implant-supported bridges are frequently only partly covered or excluded — confirm cover and codes with your scheme first.

Frequently asked questions

What does 'per unit' mean for a bridge?

Each crown or false tooth that makes up the bridge is one unit. A standard bridge to fill a single-tooth gap is usually three units — two anchor crowns on the neighbouring teeth plus the false tooth between them — so multiply the per-unit price accordingly.

Is a bridge cheaper than an implant?

A conventional bridge is often cheaper upfront than a single implant, but it requires trimming the healthy teeth on either side. Implant-supported bridges cost more but preserve neighbouring teeth and last longer. Your dentist can advise which suits your case.

How long does a dental bridge last?

A well-maintained bridge commonly lasts around 10–15 years, depending on oral hygiene, the health of the supporting teeth and the materials used.

Are these prices guaranteed?

No. SA dental fees are unregulated and vary by clinic, materials and number of units. Treat these as indicative per-unit ranges and get a written quote after an assessment.
